It’s been nearly 20 years since the Black Crowes dropped their debut album, Shake Your Money Maker, which, though not exactly groundbreaking, kicked serious ass. Following the release, UK music mag Melody Maker dubbed the boys from Atlanta “the most rock ’n’ roll rock ’n’ roll band in the world.” If that sounds like a reach, go blow the dust off the aforementioned album. Tracks such as “Hard to Handle,” “Jealous Again,” “Twice as Hard,” and “She Talks to Angels” were instant classics for a reason. In the pre-grunge era still dominated by metal and glam, the Crowes kicked it old school, with no frills, blues-tinged rock that was largely absent since the demise of Zep.

The Crowes remain true to form today, as their latest album, Before the Frost... Until the Freeze, can attest. So bake some brownies and bust out the Hacky Sack, because this Tuesday’s show at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater will be a hippified good time.
