If you heard local musicians moaning about the new ownership of Churchill’s Pub, you’d think the powers that be were about to tear down the place and put up a Starbucks. But to many, they might as well be. The former owner, Dave Daniels, has been central to the development of Miami’s local music scene thanks to his welcoming but hands-off approach to working with the bands that’ve played at the venue. Musicians such as the Jacuzzi Boys, Marilyn Manson, and the Mavericks have all gotten their start on the Churchill’s stage. But many others will also appreciate the fact that Kreamy ’Lectric Santa, Dynamo Plaza, and Boxwood were also given a chance to shine there. And don’t forget the creative bands that have graced the stage to break out everything from pop rock to avant-garde noise from around the world. After three decades of providing a stage for local musicians, Daniels is retiring, and some veteran musicians will gather to show their appreciation for him at the aptly titled “For the Good of Music/A Night for Dave Daniels,” a tribute to the man who helped them flourish creatively. Among the musicians will be Jim Camacho, Diane Ward, Charlie Pickett, Mr. Entertainment himself, and members of Load, Quit, and the Holy Terrors.
