New York artist Christian Holstads creations are simultaneously quirky and poignant. He uses drawings, soft sculptures, and large-scale installations to make statements about everyday life, or to evoke nostalgic images of love and loss. His first U.S. museum exhibition, The Terms of Endearment, is opening at the MoCA at Goldman Warehouse, and includes whimsical figurines of gently grazing donkeys made out of recycled suits and a jukebox upholstered in yellow wool that plays ballads by female singers. The kitschy jukebox only gives a mere inkling of Holstads sonic influences. Art and music lovers can learn what gets the artist dancing tonight at 8:00, when Christian Holstad and Ryan Schaefer host MoCASONIC, an innovative performance series that allows visual artists to explore aural mediums. The event coincides with the monthly Wynwood Gallery Walk. Admission is free. Call 305-893-6211, or visit www.mocanomi.org.
