While tirelessly promoting the fantabulous sport of womens jai alai with its varsity Lady Pythons, the University of Wynwood also serves as Miamis gracious ambassador to the whole wide world of words. Founded in 2008 by P. Scott Cunningham and recently flooded with cash from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the U of W really knows how to throw a literary party.
This Friday, witness the wordy-gurdiness firsthand when Cunningham and crew welcome Portland-based writer Zachary Schomburg, the newest member of the schools 2010 visiting poets class. Beginning at 8 p.m., Zachary will read from his latest suite of poems, Scary, No Scary, as part of opening night for JJ Peets solo art show The Sunday Painter. Now a taste of Schomburgian poetics: The old man hunched over at the front door will be prepared to give you a tour, but first hell ask, Scary, or no scary? You should say, No scary.
