Want to be an art collector? Better begin with some cash not an exorbitant amount, just enough to start your collection. And, of course, enough to sign up for the Museum of Contemporary Art's Mystery Dates on Saturday. Despite its titillating title, Mystery Dates is not a new-fangled speed-dating service, though organizers say there have been more than a couple of trysts resulting from the special fundraising event. Instead, it's a night designed to let upstart collectors see what they should be aspiring to: the rich troves of art and architecture that some of the city's most accomplished collectors possess.
After a cocktail reception at MOCA, attendees will be whisked away to a secret residence of one of numerous art collectors, where they'll see firsthand what a mature collection looks like. They'll also receive a meal befitting art royalty and become insanely jealous at some of the plushest digs in town. Those who want to choose their dinner location can demystify their night by dropping an additional c-note on top of an already-hefty ticket price, which is $125 for MOCA members and $175 for nonmembers. The event begins with cocktails at the museum from 6 to 8 p.m. and continues with dinner parties throughout Miami at 8:30. The afterparty at the Raleigh Hotel (1775 Collins Ave., Miami Beach) gets going at 11. Advance tickets are required. Call 305-893-6211, ext. 36, or visit mocanomi.org.
