What’s better than going to Tobacco Road (626 S. Miami Ave., Miami) to enjoy another edition of the Four Twenty Fest? The fact that this year there’s a whole heap of meaning behind it. For those who aren’t up on the latest cannabis news, the Florida Supreme Court is about a pack of rolling papers away from passing legislation that would legalize medical marijuana, leading directly to a spike of prescriptions for depression and “nonspecific joint pain.” While the previous six editions of the Four Twenty Fest celebrated the wonderfulness of an illegal substance, Four Twenty Fest number seven actually has reason to celebrate an unlikely happening. The fest kicks off Friday and will be hosted by the Road’s emissary of ganja, DJ Oski. There will be three stages of live music sponsored by Brickell Smoke Shop, Vake & Smoke Shop #1, and Cocktail Collection, as well as marijuana- (and nonmarijuana-) themed arts and crafts, raffles, and a whole slew of other weed-inspired activity. Most important, however, is the voter registration of Miami’s massive marijuana-loving community, which one can only assume spends more time watching Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle than taking the time to push our legislators to legalize medical marijuana.
