There’s a boatload of reasons to visit the Global Cuba Fest at the North Beach Bandshell, and none of them involves that old guy with the beard who likes to smoke. For one, the kids are gonna love the musical comedy Once Upon a Time in the Caribbean, which features a hummingbird, a frog, a street vendor, and a big dance number. Best of all, it’s free, so if you don’t spring for ice cream after, you’re a real cheapskate. That show begins at 3 p.m. and comes courtesy of two-time Latin Grammy-nominated artist Rita Rosa. Then, at 7 p.m., Cuba’s own Interactivo will perform its first show ever in the United States. The band melds the traditional danzón, bolero, and son styles with jazz, pop, and rock for an internationally acclaimed fusion sound that will have you dancing like you’ve got a wet foot, dry foot. All told, this event eschews political discurso for pura cultura, and if you’re into good times, a global Cuba, and forking over $20 for the Interactivo concert, you’re sure to have a blast.
