Pronounce, now, the names of the great lizard champions of the past: Rocky Reptiliano, Iguana Ali, Sugar Ray Lizard, Evander Scalyfield.

Think your cold-blooded pet has what it takes to join their ranks? Find out this Sunday when the Miami Science Museum hosts its annual Lizard Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission for your nonvenomous, properly caged lizard is free, as is his or her entrance into the Lizard Showcase. Prizes will be awarded in “Best of Show,” “People’s Pick, “Junior Herpetologist,” and “Largest All Around.” Museum chef Kat Duran will cook up crazy yet delicious specialties such as stir-fried mealworms, ant crisps, and critter gelatin surprise, and non-reptilian humans can enter a trivia challenge or have their faces painted.

Don’t have a lizard? Don’t worry. The museum will have a ton of different species on display, from that charming British salesman the gecko to the dangerous Nile crocodile.

Admission is $18 for adults, $13 for kids 12 and younger.
Sun., July 26, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., 2009
