Over the past quarter-century, the annual Sting concerts have become a launch pad for some of the Caribbeans hottest acts. Now were adding elements of R&B, hip-hop, and as we go on, Sting will come to represent rock, jazz, and soul too. Were taking it to the next level, says event organizer Lamar Silvera. The revamping of the Woodstock-style peace festival begins at Sting Miami 2006, a celebration that will take over Bicentennial Park (1075 Biscayne Blvd., Miami). Lets hope Wyclef will lay off the Shakira and bring back some retro Fugees classics during his set today. The Ying Yang Twins, Trina, and Luke will keep the rap vibe going strong. Stings reggae lineup is enough to leave an aficionado agog. Beenie Man will prove himself as the King of the Dancehall. Capleton will bring inflammatory energy to the stage, and popular crooner Gyptian will perform his latest hits. A (rumored) performance by dancehall legend Ninja Man will make the crowd go wild. The festivities begin at noon and end at midnight. Tickets range from $35 to $60. Visit www.stingmiami2006.com.
