It's almost comical what an epic fail of a season it's been for the 2010 Florida Marlins. And the microcosm of the Fish's year of ineptitude can be summed up in ace pitcher Josh Johnson's season. Johnson was a serious contender for the coveted Cy Young Award. He finished July with a 10-3 record and a record-setting 1.72 ERA. J.J. was exceptional. But the Marlins bullpen mastered the art of blowing game after game, specifically when Johnson was on the mound. The Marlins' ham-fisted bullpen alone cost J.J. at least 11 more wins and, of course, any shot at winning the Cy Young. And then, in mid-September, Johnson and the team announced he would shut it down for the remainder of the season thanks to a strained back. A season wasted. But by all means, let's keep saving money and lying about financial statements so we can continue having guys with no business pitching in the majors come out of the bullpen to blow more games for stars like Josh Johnson. That sounds like an excellent plan! The Fish mercifully will end their season with a series starting this Thursday as they host the Pittsburgh Pirates at Sun Life Stadium.
