Brain guy Oliver Sacks discovered that the right music can “unlock” people frozen by Parkinson’s disease, allowing them to sing or dance. The Miami Light Project is likely hoping for a similar mobilization with its Dance Your A$$ Off fundraiser. Saturday a heady local soundtrack by Brimstone127, Papa Keith, Barrie Hype, House Arrest, Hardcore Movements, Lady Terra, the Brass King, Chilly Monestime, and Giselle D’ Wassi will propel two local dance troupes. Teo Castellanos, director of D-Projects, uses Zen ritual movements and break-dancing to question America’s cultural identity. And the Rosie Herrera Dance Theatre’s recent Pity Party and Various Stages of Drowning combined drag queens, cabaret, and modern dace. The event will also celebrate the soft opening of Miami Light Project’s new 12,000-square-foot Wynwood arts space, the Light Box at Goldman Warehouse.
