On our side of the pond, a bier is something a corpse or coffin hangs out on before it’s buried. We prefer the less macabre interpretation that folks in Germany and the Netherlands use -- the intoxicating elixir we know and love as beer. And we definitely appreciate Oktoberfest, their 16-day party that celebrates bier as its guest of honor.

In case you didn’t know, we’ve had our very own Oktoberfest rolling since October 19, and today is the finale of the German-American Social Club’s family-friendly version of the legendary shindig. So from noon to 10:00 p.m., you and yours can shake your groove thangs to the music of German and Austrian bands, lose your voice screaming on the carnival rides, chow down on sauerkraut and spätzle, and guzzle authentic German beer (if you’re 21 or older) until the lights come on. Admission is $10 for adults, a buck for teens, and free for children under 13. Glub-glub at 11919 SW 56th St., Miami.
