As a child, you had an affinity for dolls -- whether Barbie or G.I. Joe – that was encouraged and accepted. As an adult, not so much. But it’s totally cool for anyone to love Pablo Cano’s life-size marionettes and rod puppets made from found objects, which include fanciful creations such as coffee-pot-constructed Chinese magicians and a swarm of ants made from balloons and purse straps. Cano’s marvelous puppets will dance to a beat inspired by traditional marionette theater and the music of the Twenties in Viva Vaudeville at the Museum of Contemporary Art (770 NE 125th St., North Miami). Tickets start at $10 for the doll-faced burlesque and tango fun. Today’s show begins at 2 p.m., but you have until December 29 to catch a glimpse. Call 305-893-6211 or visit www.mocanomi.org for additional showtimes and dates.

To introduce the kiddies to some holiday fun and fantasy, head to the Coral Gables Youth Center (405 University Dr., Coral Gables) for the presentation of Babes in Toyland by the Miami Children’s Theater. Youngsters can watch their favorite nursery rhyme characters come to life in this classic tale of boy-meets-girl, while you take a trip down memory lane. Today’s shows take place at 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tickets start at $10. Call 305-274-3595 or visit www.miamichildrenstheater.com for additional showtimes and to purchase tickets.
