It was 1969 when a dairy farm in Bethel, New York, transformed into the coolest place on Earth. To think that a spot where cows chewed cud and got their utters yanked would be the site of rock ’n’ roll legend must have seemed insane. But 40 years later, concert promoters are still trying to re-create that three-day peace-, drug-, and music-fueled fest. Our own center of rock, the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, will celebrate Woodstock’s 40th Anniversary with memorabilia displays and strolling Hendrixes, Joplins, and Garcias. BYO psychedelics, dude, but don’t freak out when you see people wearing bellbottoms and hand-knitted shirts; it’s the staff and they’re just getting in the spirit, so don’t ask them for “junk.”

If you celebrate by drinking, you can order a Purple Haze, Red Headed Groupie, or nonalcoholic Groupie Grind at the bar. Prefer to play out your main-stage fantasies instead? From 4 to 10 p.m., free Jimi Hendrix-style guitar lessons will go down in the main lobby. And since the “Stock” is nothing without music, on Thursday, August 20, legends Crosby, Stills & Nash will rock the Hard Rock Live. Tickets start at $40, much cheaper than a time machine. So grab your chance to experience history at ticketmaster.com.
Tue., Aug. 18, 4 p.m.; Thu., Aug. 20, 8 p.m., 2009
