Let’s not kid ourselves — karaoke is a sport best played while drunk. Otherwise, your friends’ lack of lyrical ability is all too apparent. Luckily, you can lube up your vocal cords with some grown-up fruit juice before taking the stage at Schnebly Redland’s Winery & Brewery (30205 SW 217th Ave., Homestead) for Friday Night Karaoke.
A Homestead staple since 2003, this lush oasis is home to a multitude of fruit spirits, including those fermented with the tropical tastes of mango, lychee, guava, and passionfruit. Plus, the winery-cum-brewery recently released of a bevy of new beers, such as Big Rod Key West Ale, Shark Attack, and Gator Tail Ale.
So with the taste of the tropics on their tongues, karaoke connoisseurs will croon to the tunes of Robert of Kara-O-King beneath the winery’s 5,000-square-foot chickee hut.
Sure, it’s a bit of a drive, but where else can you belt out these lyrics — “Like lychee wine and seventeen/The hot July moon saw everything/My first taste of love, oh bittersweet/Green on the vine/Like lychee wine” — while sipping on the song’s sweet namesake? (We may have taken a little creative license, but come on, lychees are so much sexier than strawberries.)
