What’s worse than being forced to spend an extended and unnecessary amount of time with your family thanks to holidays and weddings? Being stuck inside with them while a hurricane rages outside. Such is the ordeal that befalls three siblings and their parents in Captiva, 2011 Carbonell Award winner Christopher Demos-Brown’s dark, twisted comedy about family dysfunction. The play opens at the Arsht Center’s Carnival Studio Theater this Thursday at 7:30 p.m. While celebrating the daughter’s engagement news, the family is marooned together when a hurricane unexpectedly changes course. Chaos ensues. Among the crazy-ass dynamics that bubble to the surface: the alcoholic father’s marriage to one of the son’s high school friends, rampant incestuous sexual tension, old family rivalries, and plenty of pent-up insecurities. Helplessly stranded, the relatives are forced to suffer through cabin fever with a crapload of wine and tense conversation while facing some ugly truths about themselves.
Wednesdays-Fridays, Sundays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Nov. 3. Continues through Nov. 20, 2011
