Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird is arguably the all-time greatest piece of American literature. Reading the book and watching the film were a rite of passage in high school. You were likely forced to watch the movie in English class under the pretense you would be quizzed on it. But as an immature 14-year-old with hormones racing at the speed of light, your attention was probably fixed more on secretly passing a note to your crush than on appreciating the greatness that is Atticus Finch. Your eyes also never quite adjusted to the black-and-white cinematography because you thought it was lame. Also, you just didn’t care about anything, ever, because: teenagers. Well, you’re a grownup now, and things you once thought were boring can be seen with a whole new pair of refined eyes. The Miami Beach SoundScape Cinema Series continues with To Kill a Mockingbird, starring Gregory Peck, this Wednesday at SoundScape Park (500 17th St., Miami Beach). Pack a lawn chair and a cozy blanket (essential on typically cool February nights) to watch the 1962 film projected on the 7,000-square-foot wall of the New World Center. A black-and-white movie under the stars? Your 14-year-old self wouldn’t even recognize you.
