You snooze, you lose, right? Well, not in the case of the The Red Thread, a new production opening at the kid-friendly PlayGround Theatre. When artistic director Stephanie Ansin snoozes, she creates. She wrote The Red Thread after Fernando Calzadilla, co-writer and production designer of the play, read to her while she dozed in his studio. Since then, Ansin and Calzadilla have done a lot of research, weaving into their play elements from the martial arts, philosophy, geography, mysticism, and music of China. The final product is the story of a young womans heroic efforts to rescue her fathers surprisingly miraculous masterpiece. The PlayGround will host New York actors Christian T. Chan, Christina Jun, and Kate Shine, who will join local actors Melissa Almaguer, Troy Davidson, Stephen Elliot Kaiser, Marjorie ONeill-Butler, and Jesús Quintero for the production.
Tuesdays-Sundays, 8 p.m. Starts: April 13. Continues through May 27, 2011
