It's beginning to look a lot like the holidays here in Miami, inside and out. Although it is still not particularly cold weather-wise, hopefully the theaters will crank the air to 30 and whip up a snowstorm during a film.

December is here and so are a bundle of classic movies, some of which are, of course, winter themed. Without further ado, here's what to look forward to, split up by location.

Coral Gables Art Cinema
Daytime at the Gables Cinema includes a couple of great films this month. One is is the Family Day at Aragon feature of the month: The Sound of Music! The musical plays both Saturday and Sunday, December 12th and 13th at 11:00am.

As for the night life in Gables, it's all about Secret Celluloid Society's line-up of Christmas movies. While Mad Max: Fury Road (which might as well be dubbed an instant classic) will be showing on Saturday the 5th, the three following weeks will feature all holiday flicks: Home Alone 2 on the 12th, Die Hard on the 19th, and A Christmas Story on the 26th. And to top it all off, their roadshow will also be offering up some surprise showings on Friday nights. All showings are at 11:30 p.m.

Miami Beach Cinematheque
MBCinema has plenty of surprises to offer this month, with the first being an evening with curator/historian/filmmaker Bruce Posner, who will be presenting an introduction and Q&A to Masterworks of Avant-Garde Experimental Film 1928-1970. The screening is comprised of five short films, all restored by Posner and takes place on Saturday the 6th and 4 p.m.

Following that is a screening of David Lynch's essential Mulholland Dr. as part of PAXy's Lynch movie series, "Catching the big FISH." The screening, which takes place on Friday the 11th at 9:00 p.m. will also be introduced by Richard Green, who plays The Magician in the film itself. The cinematheque will also be offering a small series that highlights many films nominated for Independent Spirit Awards this year that both had limited releases and were not shown in Miami theaters earlier in the year.

O Cinema
This month, O Cinema has their now-monthly showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show (date to be announced), but more importantly, they've got their own vaguely-holiday-themed flick. The classic being offered at their Wynwood location on December 8th at 9p.m. is Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands, showing as part of its 25th anniversary.
