In 1966, the iconic TV series Star Trek promised viewers it would take them to the final frontier. The franchise has pushed way beyond that, spawning numerous spinoff TV shows and films — including a recent reboot that injected new life into the crew of the USS Enterprise. What began as a five-year mission is now celebrating its 50th anniversary as a cultural phenomenon. To quote one of the show's most beloved characters, it is an entity that continues to “live long and prosper.”

And prosper it shall as Florida Supercon organizes the ultimate anniversary celebration for this July.

During the four-day event, William Shatner (Captain Kirk), Karl Urban (Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy), Walter Koenig (Pavel Chekov), Michael Dorn (Worf), René Auberjonois (Odo), Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar), Robert Picardo (the Doctor), Robert Duncan McNeil (Tom Paris), and David Warner will gather at the Miami Beach Convention Center for a series of panels, parties, and photo ops.

“The first convention I went to in South Florida was a Star Trek convention featuring Walter Koenig that I attended when I was 13," Supercon founder Mike Boder says. "Star Trek has been an inspiration for so many people, and I look forward to a day when people can beam their way into Supercon.”

With the resurgence of the recent film trilogy — from 2009’s Star Trek and 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness to the Justin Lin-directed Star Trek Beyond, set for a July 22 release, Gene Rodenberry's creation continues to be a mainstay in pop culture and science fiction.

Leonard Nimoy’s Spock was a creature of science and logic; therefore, logically speaking, Florida Supercon 2016 will be a memorable affair for nerds across the galaxy.

However, if sexy green alien women, phasers, and Vulcan death grips aren’t your thing, no worries. The comic convention, now in its 11th year, has geeky offerings from many other universes too, including but not limited to Star Wars, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, and The Lord of the Rings

Florida Supercon 2016
