The term mayday is a universal distress signal that means “This shit’s gonna blow!” But here in Miami, it’s become a rallying cry to party, thanks mostly to explosive hip-hop sextet ¡Mayday!. After building its name locally, the band first garnered national props in 2006 after the video for the single “Groundhog Day,” featuring Cee-Lo of Goodie Mob and Gnarls Barkley, generated an astounding 2 million YouTube views in one day. Since then, they’ve been steadily adding to their discography with arty rap opuses On 2 Someth’n and The Thinnest Line while simultaneously holding down the homefront.

If you haven’t seen them live, don’t miss MCs BernBiz and Wrekonize -- along with refreshed backing crew Plex Luthor, Gianni Cash, L.T. Hopkins, and Noms -- when they hit Transit Lounge for the release of their new EP, Technology. The first ten people in the door will score a free CD, while latecomers can get a copy for five bucks. As always, there’s no cover at Transit. Come for the free party and the cheap swank, but stand back: This shit’s gonna blow!
