There are a lot of misconceptions about Miami -- and Miami Beach in particular. Sure, it's a picturesque tropical paradise, but there's more to the area between South Pointe Park and Indian Creek than Brazilian bikinis and frozen cocktails.

As a local, now's your chance to show the world the area's lesser-known assets, and maybe win sweet prizes while you're at it. The Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority (MBVCA) is hosting a "favorite places" photo contest from now through the end of the month.

The gist of the contest is this: share an original (no stealing from Instagram, you guys) photo of your fave Miami Beach spot -- someplace you'd recommend to friends and family. So maybe not the alley alongside Mac's Club Deuce.

The top ten photos with the most likes will be chosen as semi-finalists.

The prizes are pretty sweet: a $500 gift card for first place; a $250 gift card for second and an Apple iPad Mini for third.

Check out the MBVCA Facebook page for all the deets.

The contest is on now and ends at 11:59 p.m. on September 30, 2014. To be eligible for the winning swag, you've gotta upload the photo via the MBVCA Facebook contest page and email a hi-res version to [email protected]. The contest is open to legal U.S. residents 18 and older, and only ten entries can be submitted per email address/per person.
