Ahhh, South Beach: the land of milk and honey, pure cocaine and fake gold dookie chains. From Alton Road to Ocean Drive -- depending on what streets you decide to travel -- the air smells like either dog piss and cigarettes or Chanel No. 5 and money. SoBe is unique, to say the least, and the latest author to capture the grit and glamour of it all is Sunday Lee, in her book Stories from South Beach.
In her novel, Lee introduces us to Anna P., a Midwestern girl who leaves her middle-class existence for what she thinks is paradise. She finds work as an English teacher, but of course beneath the swaying palm trees is t-t-t-rouble, and Anna P. finds herself embroiled in a life that Pennsylvania never prepared her for. Theres action. Pow! Romance. Ooooh! And laughs. Tee hee! Go to the Miami Beach Public Library today from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., pick up a copy of the book, meet Sunday Lee, and tell her your own SoBe horror stories.
