Set your alarm for the darkest hours of the morning and prepare to witness a rarely seen Miami spectacle. Beginning at 6:15 a.m., a whole lot of Miamians are about to make their New Years resolutions come to life. Thats right this Sunday is the ING Miami Marathon, and if you arent ready to race, you better be down to hold up a supportive and encouraging sign. Who knows, you might even find inspiration to get your shit together for next years 26.2-mile race of champions!
Marathon weekend includes activities for people who dont plan to run. If you prefer to proceed at a statelier pace, theres the 5K Run/Walk. For those looking to learn alternative routes to wellness, check out the free Health & Fitness Expo at the Miami Beach Convention Center (1901 Convention Center Dr., Miami Beach). If youre in the mood to celebrate island-style, visit the Trinibago Village, located on the marathon route nearby the Trinidad and Tobago Consul General Office at 1101 Brickell Ave. Runners and patrons seeking refreshment can whiz by for live steel pan music and authentic cuisine from 9 a.m. to noon. Neighborhoods throughout the race route will be celebrating and offering encouragement along the way, but if you want to join in applauding the heroic efforts of the runners, head to the official ING Cheering Zone at the Omni Center (NE 15th Street and Biscayne Boulevard, Miami). People will be out hootin and hollerin from 6:50 a.m. to 2 p.m. For a complete schedule and information about road closures, call 305-278-8668 or visit ingmiamimarathon.com.
