Lily Harrison is a retired firecracker of a woman living in her gulf-front condo in St. Petersburg. And all she wants, in her twilight years, is to learn to dance the waltz. And the foxtrot. And the cha-cha. And the tango. And some contemporary dance thrown in too. So she hires young dance instructor Michael for a six-week private course. The pair makes the oddest of couples. But what begins as a hostile relationship between two strong-willed people blossoms into a warm, intimate friendship where secrets are revealed and dance becomes the great equalizer. Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks, opening Friday at the Stage Door Theatre at the Byron Carlyle (500 71 St., Miami Beach), is Richard Alfieri’s poignant, funny, and sassy international hit comedy that took L.A. and Broadway by storm and has been translated into 21 languages. It’s Driving Miss Daisy meets Dirty Dancing, with a touch of the Odd Couple, filled with music, laughter, and, of course, dance.
