Jonathan Larsen’s Tony Award-winning musical Rent has become so well-known that even if you haven’t seen it, you’ve probably found yourself humming the lyrics to “Seasons of Love.” You know the song, the one that goes, “Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes,” over and over. The equal parts heart-wrenching/rock-’n’-rolling tale of young artists struggling to survive in New York City’s Lower East Side in the shadow of HIV/AIDS is an institution in modern American musical theater, and it opens in Miami this Friday. The Main Street Players will raise the curtain at 8 p.m. at the Main Street Playhouse (6766 Main St., Miami Lakes). Directed and choreographed by Liz Dikinson, with musical direction by Andrew Gilbert, Rent will run through October 14.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 5 p.m.; Thu., Oct. 4, 8 p.m. Starts: Sept. 28. Continues through Oct. 14, 2012
