A woman exits the dense, sweaty mangroves and finds the limestone splendor of Vizcaya. She attempts to make sense of the Mediterranean-revival home on Biscayne Bay by caressing the furniture, wandering the gardens, and even trying to dethrone the civilized lady of the house. Such is the fantasy of Miami artist Naomi Fisher's "Jungle Sweat, Roseate," the fall/winter exhibit in Vizcaya's Contemporary Arts Project.

Through video and installation in the main house, Fisher confronts the split between nature and culture through architecture. She also conjures a lifetime of memories of visiting Vizcaya, recalling "robber-baron decadence (while the masses starve), Goth-mermaid spawning grounds, Renaissance fair falconers, and quinceañera hoop skirts." The exhibit will be up through January 16.
Mondays, Wednesdays-Sundays, 9:30 a.m. Starts: Oct. 7. Continues through Jan. 16, 2011
