Coconut Grove's long-standing comedy club, Miami Improv, is no more. The spot is shuttered and all future shows are cancelled, a representative told Cultist.

The spot, tucked away at 3390 Mary St., wasn't doing well financially, according to the rep, so the owners decided to shut the doors. "We are contacting as many people as possible who have purchased tickets to refund everyone," she added.

The club was part of a chain with various locations across the country, including New York City, Hollywood (California), and Palm Beach.

According to the rep, the owners will be looking for a new Miami location in which to re-open. The marquee stills shows November dates for headliners Damon Wayans and Godfrey Louie. But the company's website, miamiimprov.com, shows an empty calendar, and calls to its former phone number are being forwarded to an office in Palm Beach.

Not everyone will be bummed by the closure. The club has haters, culminating in an entire website devoted to consumer complaints, MiamiImprovSucks.com.

The closure also comes on the heels of the approval of Grove Bay, a new waterfront development to go up along South Bayshore Drive. The multi-million dollar project is likely to lead to an influx of people into the Grove - so who knows what'll go up in the Improv's place.
