Each year for 28 days (29 if it’s a leap year), the nation shines an extra-bright spotlight on African-American history and its contributions to our society. Sure, the U.S. of A. cranks that Soulja Boy and prays Flava Flav will find love all year ’round, but February is the time when the stories of pioneers like Madame C.J. Walker and George Washington Carver finally get their time in the sun. And today at North Glade Park, the Miami-Dade Park division of arts and culture presents A Salute to Black History Month, the latest installment of the Neighborhood Parks Concert Series.

From 3 to 6 p.m., international steel pan superstar Othello Molineaux, jazz diva Debbie Orta, and the North Glade Park Dance Ensemble will hit the stage for an afternoon full of the sounds of music. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for chillaxing, and there will also be face painting, arts and craft workshops, and a puppet show for the kids. The event is free.
