Art Basel headlines usually focus onthe world-renowned artists (or musicians, or celebrities) who come down to Miami to party and/or paint up a storm. But this year, KIND Healthy Snacks is inviting you to be the artist.
The snack company has procured wall in Wynwood and they want the public's help in turning it into a work of art.
The focus of the KIND Mural Project is for guests to have the opportunity to "do something kind for their bodies, their taste buds, and their world," says Tina Pate, Regional Field Manager for KIND. Guests attending the event will be asked, "what's your kind of awesome?" and will then be expected to paint their response as part of the 25-by-6-foot mural.
"We definitely think art can bring people together, especially through the mural we are creating," says Pate. "It will not only serve as a vehicle for self-expression, but will also help create a meaningful piece of art that will be donated to the community to enjoy post-event."
KIND Snacks hope to encourage people to always "do the KIND thing" on a daily basis, and that means "not only staying healthy and eating delicious foods, but making the world a little kinder too," says Pate. She believes that in order to make a difference, there's no need to be big and flashy, but "small, unexpected acts of kindness can bring about great joy for both the giver and the recipient."
In keeping with the small acts motto, during the KIND Mural Project, there will also be a flower art installation. Guests need only to pick a flower and pass it along to someone else, whether it be a loved one, friend, or stranger. It's a guaranteed way to put a smile on someone's face.
Come happy, leave happier: "We want people to leave the event inspired to commit more acts of kindness in the community, whether that be through something as small as passing on a flower to a loved one," or helping create a mural.
Aside from the main attraction, the event will also act as an introduction to Do the Kind Thing: Projects, which Pate explains is a new initiative where KIND donates $10,000 to a project every month. "Each month, out community is invited to submit plans on kindprojects.com showcasing ideas aimed at making the world a kinder place," and after some voting, the winner is determined and funded.
While you paint a piece of the mural and pick some flowers, you'll be able to snack on some KIND munchies and grove to the spinning sounds of Mack from Y100. "Saturday's KIND event will be a fun, interactive way to for the community to be a part of Art Basel and spread kindness at the same time," says Pate.
KIND Mural Project will take place Saturday, December 7, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the parking lot behind Café Babbo (97 NW 25 St.). Attendance is free, though an RSVP is encouraged via Eventbrite.
