In her book The Farming of Bones, Edwidge Danticat recounts the 1937 massacre of Haitian workers in the Dominican Republic. It won the American Book Award in 1999 and launched the Port-au-Prince-born author as an emerging literary talent. Since then, she has become the de facto voice of the Haitian diaspora. Her novels, memoirs, and essays led to a MacArthur Foundation fellowship. And this year, she’s the editor of Best American Essays 2011, which she will discuss at Books & Books.
