Maybe it's a whole tongue-in-cheek trip, but a guy with a name such as James Husband sounds like he should be playing Captain & Tennille covers at the local retiree lounge on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sunday mornings. Instead, he's headlining this Saturday's edition of Poplife at the Electric Pickle.
Born James Huggins III, Jimmy Hubby released his debut solo disc, A Parallax I, this past October. It's 12 cuts of crunchy psychedelic pop with creepy titles like "A Grave in the Gravel" and "The Darkestness." And almost every song is awesome, which is no surprise considering Husband spends his spare time making noise with Of Montreal. Expect him to run through a good chunk of A Parallax I's track list, but maybe he'll take a few requests too. Just lay off the Captain & Tennille. Our suggestion: "Buzzards and Dreadful Crows" by bedroom pop pioneer Robert Pollard.
