Don’t expect tidy scenes of domestic order in this exhibit by four Cuban-American women artists. “A Room of One’s Own” features the work of Teresita Fernández, Maria Elena González, Quisqueya Henríquez, and María Martínez-Cañas and examines how architecture and the physicality of space shape our daily realities and our perception of the world. “By taking elements that are recognizable to us -- a house, plant life, a volcano, and the sounds of daily urban environments -- the artists prompt viewers to re-examine how we perceive these things and what they represent,” curator Elizabeth Cerejido explains.

The exhibit, opening tonight at 8:00 with a lecture by Camille Paglia at Florida International University’s Frost Art Museum (SW 107th Avenue and Eighth Street, Miami), takes its title from Virginia Woolf’s novel that addresses issues pertaining to women and the conditions necessary for women to produce their art. Paglia, a controversial scholar and culture critic, will discuss the themes of space and rooms in art history. The exhibit runs through December 10. Call 305-348-2890, or visit www.frostartmuseum.org.
