If you want to go head-to-head with these fierce, fancy ladies (and see some great fashion), then here's a short guide to Fashion Week Miami Beach. For five days, designers and fashionistas take over two Beach venues: the Setai Hotel and the Bass Museum. Most events are free and open to the public -- you just need to RSVP. Keep reading for all the details.
Wednesday, Setai:
Cruise over to this South Beach spot for the 9 p.m. Flora and Fauna opening night fashion show, featuring glow-in-the dark
knitwear (because really, who doesn't need glow-in-the-dark knitwear?)
by designer Karelle Levy and sounds by DJ Kristian Caro. And as with every
other event throughout the week, there'll be the obligatory
after-party following the neon Krewlwear show.
Thursday, Bass Museum:
Fast-forward a few days for a few more events,
including FGI Emerging Designers Competition at 6 p.m. Thursday, and the Red
Dress show by American Heart Association and Perry Ellis at 8 p.m.
Friday, Bass Museum:
We feel like we should acknowledge the Vanidades
Magia de la Moda event, where the aforementioned Miami breed will be in droves. Meanwhile you,
clearly not cool enough, will be notably absent as ticket are not available to the general public. The insider show includes the likes of designers Elie Tahari, Trina Turk, and Laundry
by Shelli Sega.
Saturday, Bass Museum:
Don't miss the Walk for the Cure
Fashion Show hosted by Miami Heat's Juwan Howard. Every penny from
ticket sales will go towards the American Heart Association. Attend and
write-off the cost as a good cause.
Saturday and Sunday, Bass Museum:
Here, shopaholics will gather to fill
their bags and empty their wallets by buying up all kinds of goodies, ranging
from couture to the affordably chic. Shop to your heart's content and
let those of that Miami breed know the rest of us Miami girls know how
to work it, too. Shop Miami Beach is open 12 to 6 p.m. on both days.
Saturday, Setai:
NYC club kid Richie Rich throws a fashion show (in
previous years he used Pamela Anderson as his muse) at 9 p.m. as well as hosts
the after party.
For Setai events, fashion shows will be in the hotel's bar and courtyard. Each evening, complimentary cocktails will be offered from 8 to 9 p.m., and fashion shows get underway at 10 p.m. Events are open to the public but reservations are required at 305-520-6400 or [email protected].
