In most parts of the world, exploring the undersea world requires oxygen tanks and scuba training. In Crandon Park on Key Biscayne, on the other hand, all you have to do to get closer to Miami’s creatures and critters is drop a net in the water. Loads of starfish, seahorses, pipefish, and sea urchins hang around the sea grass by the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Nature Center (Crandon Park, 6767 Crandon Blvd., Key Biscayne), where Seagrass Adventures are offered once a month for children and adults alike to explore what’s just beneath the surface. Ocean lovers can spend Saturday wading in the shallow waters with a nature guide who’ll explain the details of the rich underwater ecosystem that’s special to South Florida. Equipped with a net and keen eyesight, you’ll catch a colorful collection of sea life -— and then release your finds back into the wild so they can continue to grace our waters.
