In 2008, a mountain of a man with a thick, frightening beard went viral on YouTube by pummeling similarly sized and equally scary men in Perrine. That man, Kimbo Slice, gained a cult following and eventually headlined a mixed martial arts fight card at the BankUnited Center on the University of Miami campus. Pitbull even performed at the event. Fast-forward a couple of years, and another giant with a terrifying beard, a penchant for knocking out fools in Perrine, but a less intimidating name and more tattoos is headlining the next fight card at the BankUnited Center. DaDa 5000, whose real name is Dhafir Harris, is the star of Bad Blood 4 on Thursday. And this time, Trick Daddy will give the prebout concert.
Though some observers say DaDa is Kimbo Version 2.0, hell hope to avoid a similar flash-in-the-pan status when he steps into the octagon. Fight night includes Mario Big Hurt Rinaldi, another local fighter aspiring to avoid the past. Rinaldi fought at UM in 2008 and ended up a bloody mess thanks to a series of knees to the nose. Pugilist fans who like to see the ladies go at it can look forward to a Jessica Aguilar bout.
