"Miami's arts scene is really developing these days." It's a sentiment we've been hearing for so long that it's damn near a cliche. But that doesn't make it any less true. The creative types who call South Florida home have been transforming our city into a unique and fascinating community for arts lovers. And New Times wants to continue that trend.

Our MasterMind Awards gives

grants to the best artists in Miami. We know you're out there. But if you want in on the fame and the glory (and, yes, the cash), you've gotta act fast.

In years past, the MasterMind awards have helped out some pretty

impressive folks. The Borscht Film Festival used its winnings to submit

its films to festivals like Cannes and Sundance, essentially introducing

Borscht to the international film community. Jorge Rubiera took our

cash and gave us (and the rest of the world) Birdwatchers in

return. And before Roofless Records became the recipient of a Knight

Foundation grant, we gave the label a boost with award monies of our

own.

Just about any Miami-based, arts-minded person or organization can apply

for MasterMind award consideration: painters, sculptors, installation

artists, musicians, filmmakers, poets, performance artists and beyond.

But you can't sit around and wait for us to find you. To apply, send us

the following information:

To be considered, send us the below before January 20:

  • Your name

  • Contact info: phone, email, and home address
  • Short bio
  • Description of your work
  • Your Artwork

- via a link to a web site (preferred)
- emailed images

Email all of the above to

[email protected] by January 20. Finalists will be announced

February 10, and winners will be announced at our annual art soiree, Artopia. Good luck!
