It might not be what Warhol promised, but North Miamis Museum of Contemporary Art is offering a chance for creative types to shine. The museums moon-over-Miami Five Minutes of Fame Artists Forum is an open-mike night for local visual artists invited to present and discuss their work in a PowerPoint or similar presentation the second Wednesday of every month. Its a great opportunity for anyone who considers themselves an artist to share their work with others in a noncritical public setting, explains MoCAs education curator, Adrienne Von Lates. We have had people as young as 19 and as old as 70, some who are self-taught, speak about what they create, and the evening has become an adventure with constant discoveries.
Von Lates says the sessions include up to ten participants and are wide-open. We even had this one artist from Hialeah, worried about his English, bring his kids up onstage to translate. Catch Miamis fringe Picassos this Wednesday night at 7 at MoCA, 770 NE 125th St., North Miami. Tickets cost $12. Call 305-893-6211, or visit mocanomi.org.
