So they think they can dance. Well, of course they do theyre professionals. This week, actual dancers from around the globe (and not reality TV, hoofin hacks) descend on Miami for WinterFest 2009, a weeklong program of hip-hop, modern, ballet, and Latin dance performances and workshops sponsored by the Florida Dance Association. Catch the opening night this Sunday at 8, when Florida Dances takes over downtowns New World Dance Theater.
Then, on Wednesday, at the Colony Theatre (1040 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach), Guggenheim Fellowship winners Bill Young and Colleen Thomas known for an experimental modern dance style that employs strength, agility, and some trippy video art will perform with their company of dancers. And on January 3, San Franciscos mixed-ability Axis Dance Company will headline the closing-night performance and prove that the wheelchair-bound are as lithe as cats.
Ticket cost $6 to $22. To purchase them or register for the workshops, call 305-547-1117 or visit floridadanceassociation.org.
