In honor of our People Issue, which will hit newsstands and computer screens November 25, Cultist proudly presents "100 Creatives," where we feature Miami's cultural superheroes in random order. Have suggestions for future profiles? Email [email protected] with the whos and whys.
Born in Manizales, Colombia, Calle
has called Miami home for the past decade. After studying photography
and graphic design in Colombia and Mexico, she earned a desk at the
Miami Ad School in South Beach -- one of the most prestigious and
award-winning advertising schools in the world.
Calle's work has earned her numerous accolades, most recently first place in the Fine Art Collage category from the International Photography Awards this year. Her series "Republic of China" was chosen from over 15,000 photos sent from 103 countries. Images from the series were also selected to appear in the IPA's "Best in Show" exhibit in New York this past October. With all the worldwide recognition, Calle still remains true to the 305, and will exhibit her new media installation, "ChinaMan," at the Claudia Calle Studio during Art Basel.
This project is also going to be part of the exhibit during Art Basel, with a completely new piece that I'm very excited called "China-Man." China-Man is a video game installation with a very strong social and environmental message. All will take place in my studio in the Wynwood Art District.
