Is there any Miami movie bigger, badder, or more beloved than Scarface? The insurmountable framed evidence seen via MTV’s Cribs on every rapper’s living room wall tells us no effing way. It’s been a quarter-century since Al Pacino and Steven Bauer introduced us to the dangers of violating the 10 crack commandments, and the film’s popularity only seems to grow with time. Brian De Palma’s 1983 flick has gone on to inspire innumerable rap songs (as well as the soubriquet of one of the South’s finest rappers), comic books, and even videogames. If you’re one of those annoying mofos who loves to quote movies line for line, you should be in fine company Friday night at the Gusman Center for the 25th anniversary of Scarface, a celebration featuring a screening followed by a Q&A session with Manny Ribera himself — better known as locally beloved actor Steven Bauer.

The evening will be hosted by the Friends of Gusman, an organization dedicated to refurbishing the legendary local theater. Tickets cost $15 and are available through www.ticketmaster.com or the Gusman box office. An elegant reception will begin at 6 p.m., and the opening shots hit the screen at 8. Call 305-374-2444, or visit www.gusmancenter.org.
