Florida gave women the right to vote in 1969, 50 years after the ratification of the 19th Amendment. Our states treatment of ladies improved exponentially, though, when one feisty feminist took up residence in Coral Gables in the 50s. Roxcy Bolton demanded that women get equal pay and access to the same executive lunchrooms as men, and that those bastards at NOAA stop naming hurricanes only for women. Bolton, however, was a perfect storm of womens activism. She was instrumental in the National Organization for Women, founding its Miami chapter as well as crisis centers for SoFla women.
