Decades before you could buy chili in an oversize can at the local Publix, women wearing rainbow hues walked the streets of San Antonio passing out the good stuff, bowl by bowl. The hearty meat stew kissed with the flavors of chili peppers, onions, garlic, and cumin made folks in the 1800s happy enough to dance along with the mariachi bands accompanying the chili queens.
