Where Will the Miami Herald Move? Somewhere in This Inner-City Box

The Miami Herald have sold their bayside building to the Genting Group, the casino-happy Malaysian conglomerate, and today publisher David Landsberg sent out a memo to the staff confirming that they'll vacate their current digs by May 2013.

Random Pixels has obtained that memo, and in it Landsberg lays out a very general area of potential sites for a new Herald HQ. It certainly ain't prime real estate.

"Here is a quick summary of what can be shared," writes Lansberg. "We have generally been looking at spaces within the Gratigny highway on the north, 836 on the south, the Palmetto highway on the west, and I-95 on the east."

That means the new Herald building will be somewhere within the red region of this map (its current home is marked by the Google Maps marker):

With all apologies to those who live and work in the area, that's not exactly on anyone's dream list of areas in Miami in which they'd like to work.

That area does include the current home of the Bertram Yacht company. Back in August, the South Florida Business Journal reported the Herald was looking at a 15-acre plot on the land located a bit east of the airport at 3663 NW 21st Street. Update: That site may have been deemed unsuitable, and the Herald is apparently now looking elsewhere.

The area does not include the 9250 W Flagler Street site SFBJ also reported the Herald was possibly interested in.
