UPDATE: Even More Body Parts Floating in the Bay; Victim's Family Pleas for Help
For the third day in a row, Miami Police officers began their morning fishing in the bay for dismembered body parts.
Just before 9 this morning, cops surrounded the bay shore near NE 96th Street, Miami PD spokesman Delrish Moss tells Riptide, after reports of human remains spotted in the water.
UPDATE: Just after 1 p.m., police confirmed that they did find another bag with human remains inside this morning. Here's what happened, according to Officer Jeffery Giordano, an MPD spokesman: A kayaker spotted a plastic bag floating in the water around 8 a.m. this morning and remembered news reports about the other remains found in the bay. The kayaker tied a rope around the bag, dragged it ashore and called the cops. Police believe the remains inside also belong to Osben Laparra.
It's the latest chapter in what's shaping up to be one of Miami's most grisly and baffling murders of the year. On Wednesday, a bicyclist noticed a suspicious-looking bag floating near the 79th Street Causeway and called the cops -- who found a chopped-up corpse inside.
On Thursday, police identified the victim as Osben Laparra, a 21-year-old Guatemalan construction worker -- a few hours before more body parts washed ashore near I-195. A bag of bloody clothes also washed up at 7899 NE Bayshore Ct..
Laparra's family sat down at police headquarters yesterday to plea for help in solving the young man's murder. Laparra vanished Saturday after an outing at a Calle Ocho nightclub, his brother says. He had no prior criminal record, other than a citation for disorderly intoxication last summer.
