There's no such thing as too much precaution following last week's shooting in Connecticut.

Two Miami-Dade schools were placed on lockdown today after a shooting occurred nearby.

Both incidents occurred after a man was shot in nearby Coconut Grove at about 2:30 p.m.

The incident happened as nearby Frances S. Tucker Elementary School was being let out, and students, staff, and parents were put on alert.

Meanwhile, nearby George Washington Carver Middle School was still in session, so the school was placed on lockdown.

Students were finally let out of the school at around 4:30 p.m.
