THIS JUST IN
Back in the Eighties and Nineties, everyone was a fan of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, thanks to singles such as American Girl, Jammin Me, and Learning to Fly. Though the group is years removed from its hit-making salad days, expect tickets to sell quickly well before the band lands in South Florida on its latest tour. Opening are the Black Crowes, who are returning to the area after a headlining tour that makes a stop at Revolution Tuesday, May 24. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers hit Sound Advice Amphitheatre at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 8. Tickets range from $29 to $59 and go on sale at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 22. Few acts define oldies-but-goodies as much as the Allman Brothers Band. Emblematic of the hazy post-Sixties era that also launched the Eagles and other laid-back country-rock acts, the Georgia ensemble has proven to be massively influential on countless bands, from Lynyrd Skynyrd to Wilco and My Morning Jacket. The group plays at Mizner Park Amphitheater at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 24. Tickets range from $39.75 to $49.75 and go on sale at 5:00 p.m. Friday, April 22.
Finally, for those who cant stand to leave South Beach much less the Miami-Dade area for some far-flung concert in Broward or Palm Beach, Back Door Bamby is celebrating its nine-year anniversary. Of course the event should be a complete freak show, with appearances by midget-size Kiss cover band Mini Kiss and performance acts such as the provocatively named Grinder Girl, as well as resident DJs Gigi, Shannon, Ani Phearce, Juan Mejia, and Tom Laroc. It all takes place at crobar at 10:00 p.m. Monday, April 25.
