It's an annual rite of passage in these here parts: Ozzfest returns to South Florida for a tenth anniversary edition! Leading the pack of course is Ozzy Osbourne, who is reassembling his old compatriots from Black Sabbath for another go-round. Don't these guys ever retire? More promising are performances by Guns N' Roses homage Velvet Revolver and, on the second stage, Rob Zombie and new jacks Mastodon. The whole shebang touches down at the Sound Advice Amphitheatre at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, September 4. Tickets range from $35.50 to $114.00 and go on sale at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18.

By the way, System of a Down toured with Ozzfest several times, most recently in 2002. Now the band is huge; its most recent album, Mezmerize, opened at number one on the Billboard charts (probably owing to all of those veiled diatribes against the Bush administration). SOAD's upcoming tour with fellow prog-rockers the Mars Volta looks to be a doozy, and it comes to the Office Depot Center Wednesday, August 17. Tickets range from $32 to $45 and go on sale at 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 17.

If crushing metal isn't your thing, then take refuge in the challenging sounds of South Florida resident Tori Amos. She usually performs here about once a year, but this time she'll be supporting her latest allegorical confessional, The Bee Keeper. Amos takes over the Sound Advice Amphitheatre at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 10. Tickets range from $39 to $49 and go on sale at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 17.

Fort Lauderdale rock club Revolution has announced two new shows for your entertainment. The first is by the Codetalkers, with Jimmy Herring supporting. That concert takes place at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, August 18. Tickets cost $15. Then there's Obituary, which hits Revolution a few weeks later at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 18. Tickets cost $20. Both shows go on sale at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18.

I'll admit it: I know a lot about music, but I don't know a damn thing about country music. I do know that Tim McGraw is a big deal though, and not just for his recent hit duet with Nelly. If you like Nashville country, then you probably like Mr. McGraw. He's coming to Hard Rock Live, a relatively small venue for someone who often performs at stadiums, at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 25. Tickets range from $50 to $200 and go on sale at noon Saturday, June 18.

Finally, for all you classic hard rock fans, Hard Rock Live in Hollywood is bringing through two erstwhile corporate rock behemoths -- Styx, of the ever-funky Mr. Roboto, and power ballad masters REO Speedwagon -- for a special one-time concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 12. Tickets range from $45 to $75 and go on sale at noon Friday, June 17.
