The South Florida Newspaper Apocalypse is Imminent
Bob Norman, over at our sister paper the BPB New Times, has been chronicling the misfortunes of our local daily papers for quite some time now, and the shit hit the fan this weekend. It is 2013 for the black and white and red all overs.
To Recap: The New York Times reported late Friday that McClatchy is said to be trying to sell The Miami Herald, one of its largest and most prestigious papers. Then, the parent company of The Sun-Sentinel, Tribune Co is said to be nearing bankruptcy.
What does this mean? Pretty soon everyone will be getting their daily local news from links and rants I string together on the internet.
Anyway, The Herald yesterday ran an excited piece about all the moves it has recently made to make it a leaner, meaner, and theoretically better paper. It might as well have ran a "For Sale Ad."
