So everyone expected a big quarterback controversy for the Hurricanes this off-season between rising senior Jacory Harris and sophomore Stephen Morris. Well, Al Golden released his spring training depth chart today, and the first-string quarterback as of right now is, uh, Spencer Whipple. Yes, the kid who got on the team only because his dad was the now-fired offensive coordinator and spent most of last season holding balls for the place kicker.
"This depth chart is less of an indication of what the Hurricanes' lineup will look like on Labor Day and more a reward for the players who worked the hardest this offseason," writes ESPN's Heather Dinich. "Golden has said all along that the players who worked the hardest in the offseason would be rewarded with spots at the top of the depth chart."

So basically this is all some Al Golden voodoo mind trick to send very public messages to both Harris and Morris that they aren't working hard enough. But it also has the bonus of not adding fuel to QB controversy fire too early. For what it's worth, Harris is listed second and Morris is third.
There are other surprises on the chart -- Seantrel Henderson missing out on the first spot at LT, and Travis Benjamin being listed as the second wide receiver. Read the full depth chart here.
Golden also plans to make spring training the most grueling one the Hurricanes have seen in years. Players begin their day being forced to eat a 1,500-calorie breakfast and end it with "flipping tires, pushing sleds, and carrying 80-pound weights 20 yards."
